How to Run Mac OS X In Windows Vista and XP

This is a step by step tutorial on how to get Mac OS X running on your windows machine. This will work with any version of Mac OS X and on windows Vista and XP. For the sake of the tutorial I will be using Apple Mac OS X Panther on microsofts new operating system, Vista.

For this to run fantastic you'll need to have a nice spec for your computer. However this will still work on most personal computers and laptops from the last two to three years.

Lets Roll...

  1. Right, first things first. You will need to download PearPC.net package. Use the link below if you like
  2. Download PearPC.net Package

  3. Unzip PearPC.net Package to your desktop. You should have a folder called PearPC.net package.
  4. Next you will have to get a copy of a MAC OS X. In this case, Panther and turn disc 1 of it into an ISO. I used PowerISO.
  5. Name the iso something you will recognise, like 'OSX Disc 1.iso' and place it in the 'PearPC.net package' folder.
  6. From this folder double click on APE.jar
  7. A new window will open. Click the Generic Settings tab and toggle the settings the the screenshot below.
  8. Select

  9. Now click the image files tab and click Create HD image at the bottom of the window and name it Master HD. By default the Hard drive is 5gb. You can make it bigger if you like. Take note your need to have the space availble on your windows hardrive.
  10. Select

  11. With you Hard drive created you can connect it to your 'IDE 0 Master'. Just click the '...' and select Master HD.
  12. Now check the box to enable 'IDE 0 Slave' and click the '...'. Find and select 'OSX Disc 1'
  13. Select

  14. Select the 'Config file' tab and then click 'Save Config & Start PearPC'
  15. Select

  16. A window will load up and you'll see a a grey apple screen. After a while the 'preparing installion' screen will load. Wait abit longer then a language window will appear. Ignore this and click install then open disk utility (In the top left)
  17. `
  18. The Disk Utility window will load up. This could take some time. When it eventually loads, select the 'EIN GEBUESCH' drive then 'Partition'
  19. Select

  20. From here name your hard drive. Call it what ever you want. For the 'Volume Scheme' change it from 'current' to '1 partition'.
  21. Finally click Partition. When its done close PearPC
  22. Select

  23. Now open up PearPC again and click 'Load Config' then click 'Save Config & Start PearPC'
  24. When everything loads up again, upto the language window, select 'continue' and follow through the installion. This will take a very very long time. When the 2nd disc is require just cancel. Its not needed. Close PearPC.
  25. Select

  26. With the installation Apple MAC OS X Panther installed execute APE.jar, click 'Load Config' and select the image files tab.
  27. Uncheck 'IDE 0 Slave' and go back to the 'Config file' tab. Then 'Save Config & Start PearPC'
  28. Select

  29. Apple Mac OS X Tiger will now load! You've done it.
  30. Select

On a final note everytime you load PearPC you have to 'load the config' file then press 'Save Config & Start PearPC'. If you have found this tutorial useful please leave a comment. hey Thim, have you tryed AMD's new ESEmulator havn't tryed it out yet but i suppose it emulates OpenGL ES which the iphone uses instead of openGL. Good for proof testing until you get your hands on a Mac!

Thim, sorry you cannot, maybe if you look around the net you may find one for an iphone SDK. This tutorial will only work for MAC OSX.

Chippy, the 'panic: we are hanging here...' is a kernel error. Possible corruption in your virtual hard drive. Which is extremely weird. lol.

Well to fix this run the installation disk and run first aid. It should fix your OS. If this fails, install the system again. I know its a ball ache. But it will help in the end.

Hey, after you do the partitioning and run the installer, is it normal to get a command prompt-like screen (in pear pc) where the last thing that is there is "panic: we are hanging here..."?

Alexei, you would have to buy the Operating system. Otherwise just check a torrent site. They will have them for sure.

Can you tell me where to get the ISO images? :(

It will work with both AMD and Intel processor chip computers. :)

hi great tut do i need an intel based pc or will this work with amd?

I think the error is something to do with RAM. Try to drop the amount of ram you use in the emulator. Drop it to 128 just to see if it makes a difference.
